We've had so many fun things planned for the children this week! We're welcoming a few new friends into our program and helping them feel at home by reviewing the family videos they sent in and making some videos of our own to share with our new families. We're also updating our friends and family wall with new portraits of the children. We're using our cards to make magnets and friendly faces flash cards to add to our centers. The children LOVE seeing their own faces in our learning centers.
In our literacy center we worked on letter sounds and articulation with our winter word pack. The children loved flipping cards guessing sounds and matching letters in small group. We reinforced letter recognition and letter sounds on the overhead projector with light and shadow play as well. Ms Ingrid is teaching us to count in Spanish - many of our children can already count to five!
In our art center we've started making Valentine's Day cards for the ones we love. Our older preschoolers are practicing writing special messages of love for friends and family while our younger children are learning to use art supplies for creative expression. As we work we talk about feelings and family. We've also made some fun friendly faces cards of each child in our classroom. On the back of each card we have some special things about each child including their birthday, the names of their family members and their favorite color.. We review the cards at morning group to reinforce conversation skills and create a sense of community among the children.
Our Nugget pit has been keeping the kids hoping' and boppin'! We love outdoor play but with the extreme temperatures our outdoor time has been limited. The kids have been having lots of fun with our nugget builds. We've made several different configurations for climbing, jumping, crawling and rolling to fun music.
