Every week in our playroom we add new features for the children to explore. Our goal is for them to be EXCITED each morning to see what new things we will be learning when they come into our class! This week we're gearing up for spring with a color study of pastels.
We are switching up our block and sensory area by adding a sensory bin with a variety of fun spring colors and white paint as an invitation to mix pastel colors. By putting the colors in squeeze bottles, adding small containers and paper plates we are inviting the children to do their own work to come up with various shades of spring colors. As the week goes on we will be building on our skills by sharing some brush strokes and simple techniques for painting flowers as well.
Hanging the cardboard at varying heights adds an element of movement to our painting experience. As the children struggle to reach the higher pieces we encourage them to find ways to solve the problem. Some children tried jumping, others pushed a chair up to the easel. Painting from high up is lots of fun! There is naturally a lot of collaboration, strategy and working together as they find ways to reach the higher hanging easels.
We're looking forward to seeing how our moving art evolves throughout the week!
